Wedding Invitation Wording Etiquette
What to Write in a Wedding Invitation
Before sending out the wedding invitations, you should make sure that it has the important details. In every wedding, the invitations play the most important role as they give the guests the essential details about the wedding itself. While some of the wedding details don’t have strict rules to follow, it’s different when it comes to invitations. There are what we call wedding invitation etiquette.
- There will be no punctuation to be used except when using courtesy titles like Dr. and Mr.
- Capitalize the courtesy letters and proper names
- Dates and numbers are spelled in words ( i.e. Sunday, Third of August). No need to add year but if necessary, it must be spelled in words (i.e. Two thousand and thirteen)
- Same rules applied with the time. Instead of 4:00 PM, it should be Four o’clock in the afternoon.
- No need to capitalize each word at the beginning of every lines. Capitalized words in a wedding invitation are considered as the start of the sentence.
- Generally, limit the usage of abbreviations. Always write the mostly abbreviated words like Street, days of week, etc in complete words.
- Make clear your contractions in the invitations (i.e. instead of “Don’t”, write “Do Not”)
- The return address to be included must be the hosting party’s adress.
