My First Pongal Memory
I was living in a farming village at pondicherry, while working in Pondicherry. I heard lot of noise at one morning and got up from the bed. When I came out and checked it out, I have seen a lot of workers running behind cattles with garlands. At first, I thought they are conducting the marriage of cows and bulls. But I could not see any cow bride there. Finally, the workers caught all the bulls and decorated them all with garlands. Then the Jamindar (land lord) came out with lot of rice and dishes. They put banana leaves in front of each bull and put rice, sambar and payasam and given to bulls. My neighbor explained me that this is mattu pongal traditions and I realized what a rich culture is Tamils.
